Recruitment

Posted by | 24th July 2017 | Uncategorized

So Monday morning last full week of July 2017 and it is noticeable the effects that the proposed “Brexit” discussions are having on the hospitality industry and recruitment in this market.

As always when there is low unemployment there are a lack of active candidates available and all employers and recruiters are fishing in the same pond.

Well now we have the added effects that a lot of EU workers from all countries have decided to return home and to not wait for the end result.

The present British government need to rectify this quickly to stop this exodus before it becomes endemic with a huge impact on this very successful industry and the economy it generates.

Act now or we may all suffer consequences longer term.

I have known Mark Duffey for a number of years, as both as a candidate and most recently while assisting me with recruiting some key roles for my present company.  Mark screens his candidates before presenting them to me and the candidates are thoroughly prepared prior to meeting with me therefore matching the brief that I have given to him.

Mark listens to my requirements, understands the business needs and is able to offer a consultative approach, I would not hesitate to recommend Mark to a client or candidate for their personal or business use

Brexit

Been funny this week and last when I have found myself in the car at what is generally Jeremy Vine time on radio 2,I say funny because this week and last they have had stand in presenters which were last week Ed Milliband and this week Ian Duncan Smith.

It has been interesting listening to them being using their words neutral,I was listening today and Ian Duncan Smith had a number of people with him in the studio which were in their words not mine immigrants, god I hate that word,it sounds so divisive.

Anyway also at the same time they had invited “Big Nige” that being the stalwart of what we are being told is modern Britain, god help us if that is the case.

Anyway a lady spoke who I believe if memory serves was from Poland, she had lived here in the UK for 30 years,so really a long time.

She was so emotive about the referendum lat year and how she had been verbally abused a couple of weeks befor by some morons.

Well the lady give “Big Nige” both barrels and was so incensed of how she now feels, she feels betrayed and was crying at her onw experience, very sad that anyone should be made to feel that way.

We are proud of our country and should be but please let’s work together and we are stronger that way.

Also some recruitment needs for everyone out there as follows,
Hotel General Manager 4 star North Manchester – comp salary
Hotel General Manager 4 star Newcastle region – comp salary
Head Chef and Deputy GM Chester region restaurant both offer very good salary and package which includes regular bonus
Sales Manager city centre Manchester £30k
Sales Co-Ordinators for 2 group hotels West Midlands – £18k
F&B/Restaurant and Bars Manager nr Chester £27k
The above are available now and looking for suitable candidates for immediate starts for the right candidate if available.
Still working with a 5 star luxury Abu Dhabi hotel recruiting for Beach complex Ops Manager £3500 pm with flat, transport, travel allowance, round trip flight ticket per year, also for same venue Bar Manager,Fine Dine Restaurant Manager and Head Chef.
So if you are looking for a new challenge with any of the above or would like to see what is in the market, give me a call on 07392 847414 or email your cv to mark@mdr.limited.
Have a great weekend and of course don’t get sunburnt !!

Economics

Posted by | 20th June 2017 | Uncategorized

So yet again here we are in unchartered waters and apparently according to a Good Morning Britain survey if voting now for Brexit,51% of the population would vote to remain.

Not exactly a polar opposite to how we voted anyway with a slight swing the other way,so what’s changed is it the matter of how much it is going to cost the economy and in turn job losses etc.

Also we have been told by Mark Carney,Governor of Bank of England that we are heading for hard times and also that the economy has been revised down next year and the following year.

So good times ahead and remember you had the choice and now we have to deal with it.

Governments will still want our business and depsite the size of the country we are still the 6th largest GDP in the world.

So be bold and brave and we have been through worse I am sure.

Brexit etc

Posted by | 13th June 2017 | Uncategorized

So here we are almost a week on from the election and don’t seem to be any closer to what is going to happen.

Hard Brexit,Soft Brexit,No Brexit all seems to be far from a decision that is going to help Joe Public.

Anyway which ever direction we are led and that is what we will be “led” we will all have a hefty price to pay.

We are now going to remain in the single market with open borders for “Freedom” of movement and work force and thank goodness for that.

As it showed yesterday the NHS has received 96% less applicants for people working in a critical field and less people means that we will endure longer waiting lists amongst many things.

So we are having issues with recruiting for the NHS,well wait to see what happens in hospitality when at least 40% of the workforce are from outside the UK with multiple nationalities working in this lucrative industry which generates huge revenue for the government from sales, taxes,VAT etc.

We are in for a “Rocky Ride”,so hang on to your hats or what may be even better will be the government to outline what their rights to work in the UK which I believe wil be better for everyone.

Wedding

Posted by | 5th June 2017 | Uncategorized

So this Friday my Brother in Law is getting married to his wonderful Fiance at Manchester Town Hall.

This is such an iconic building in the city of Manchester and is also a very beautiful building with a great deal of history.

In light of recent events it has taken on a new significance to not only the great people of Manchester and their resilience to the recent horrible events but also for many other people across the globe to take a stance against people who are trying to sabotage our democracy.

I have to admit following Saturday’s melee and horrific situation in London,I will say that I would have bottled it last night,so well done to all of those people who attended and enjoyed this memorable concert and will no doubt for many years to come be able to say I was there !!.

Anyway I am looking forward to the wedding and festivities as it is over 2 days which is typical of the lovely people who are getting hitched as extra food and drink is just what we need.

Following the small intimate wedding we are going to a lovely restaurant in Didsbury called Hispi owned by someone who would be considered of thinking out of the box,Gary Usher who has not only opened alreay 3 great restaurants he has done it by the power of social media with crowd funding which I think is just brilliant.

The company have also recently announced a 4th restaurant in Liverpool called Wreckfish and this has also been very successful as they open later this year with Tom Kerridge being a guest chef for 1 night and I believe this event sold out in about 2 hours.

Well done to Helen and Joe and of course to Gary Usher and team

Hospitality post Brexit

Being in recruitment it is always interesting to hear about new trends in food, drink etc and to be gladdened that it is such a great industry to be in.

I see many TV programmes about the same,Saturday Kitchen,Master Chef,Great British menu etc and they are all great to watch and see how passionate about the business and how that drive and determination to be the best you can is always prevalent.

An area that has recently come to light when speaking to candidates is how many EU passports holders are telling me that they are returning home due to the uncertainty of what will happen to their rights at the end of the process and how worried they are about this.

The industry already has major issues to recruit good people and retain them and with that in mind is still short over 30000 vacancies at any one time.

So guys better start to prepare for this happening and as the guy used to say in “Dads Army”,”we are all doomed”

So a quick upshot of another busy week at MD Recruitment Limited and it has been great.

I have placed two great candidates this week in great roles for great hotels near Chester and Farnborough as Restaurant Manager and Restaurant and Bar Manager respectively, well done guys you did yourselves proud.

Also got a candidate starting as an interim Restaurant Manager in Warrington and also looking for a permanent role for this candidate for anyone looking for a high calibre Restaurant Manager in Cheshire.

So I am working with also a Restaurant Manager/F&B Manager in Cheshire with 2 rosette experience,Head Chef in Bournemouth as well as M&E candidate north Manchester and these are just some of the candidates I am working hard for at present.

As well still recruiting for Ops Manager – Windermere,Ops Mgr – Chester,Sous Chef – Chester and mid Cheshire,Senior Revenue Manager – Manchester as well as professional within the hospitality market across the UK.

Get in contact if you are a candidate or a client to discuss how our services can assist your operation.

The best way is by mobile on 07392 847414 or email mark@mdr.limited.

Have a great weekend !!

Master Chef

Posted by | 11th May 2017 | Uncategorized

So been watching various Chef programmes recently including Master Chef,Creme de la Creme as well as Great British Menu.

What strikes me with regards to the Master Chef contestants is that they all want to work in the hospitality industry according to what they tell you when being asked why they have entered.

So if that is the case why have none of them ever gone into a professional kitchen to learn their craft is in that too much like hard work.

If you look at chefs from professional kitchens, one of the first things you notice is how knackered they all long and stressed out from their ardous tasks and no doubt all the hard work they have had to do to take time off work to enter.

Whilst there is nothing wrong with people using the platform to profile themselves I do disagree that they are given a leg up into a world lot’s of chefs who are professional never get to know about.

My case in point is Nadiya the winner of Bake Off 2015,whilst I agree that she is a great baker and performed very well during the programme is she better than many people who have baked in a professional environment,I think not but that is TV I suppose, always wanting to make a story out of a bit of drama.

Anyway guys good luck with your cooking and believe me you learn a lot more of what the industry is about by working in a professional kitchen, most chefs never get to cook sauce or main course until they have mastered the art of cooking and cutting veg for a few years, just goes to show.

As a sign used to say in my Mother’s kitchen “kissing don’t last cooking do”
