And so this is Christmas and a Happy New Year the song goes I recall.

Well for some this year has been somewhat different and in my own world we seem to have lurched from one incident especially when it comes to “Brexit”.

I see earlier this week that the Home Secretary has indicated about certain industries and professions being able to get special dispensation to come to work in the UK,however the hospitality industry is not one of them.

Well Mr Home Secretary I urge you to review this again as the industry is under huge amounts of pressure since many well trained and skilled people have left the UK since Brexit and gone elsewhere in Europe.

So my New Year wish is that in not too distant future they review this urgently and make the sensible choice of allowing skilled,qualified and experienced people of the hospitality business to be welcome with open arms.

In the meantime do have a great Christmas and New Year and remember Christmas is only for Christmas and it will soon be over for another year.

To start the week and update in the world of recruitment.

I was recently invited very kindly to join an online group via a well known social media site,I won’t say who at this point because I may be advertising them without any benefit for me and the company.

Anyway this group was for hospitality professionals and though no longer working directly in the industry I am an active member though recruitment but also as a punter within the local area using hotels,restaurants and bars.

So I was allowed access to the group and posted a few items including job updates etc.

I then received another call to inform me that my access was being cancelled as a number of parties felt that my presence was not what was intended for the group and so as such that by allowing me to place posts,job updates etc that in doing this the group was doing my job for me.

The person who called was a little dismayed by this but felt it was their only option and I understood don’t want to make anyone feel compromised.

So thanks for the short exposure and appreciate the help but also somewhat suprised that they felt they were doing my job for me,I wish it was that easy really !!.

I heard interesting news today in regards to the proposal of immigration today and how the government plan on allowing people into to the UK going forward.

Apparently they will allow highly skilled workers from anywhere in the world with to enter the UK employment market but are not going to give the present EU workers any special dispensation.

Well I personally believe this is a major mistake especially within certain industries including hospitality which employs large amounts of EU workers presently as well as people coming from other locations globally.

The hospitality market is one of the largest employers within the current UK services and is at present suffering already with hundreds of not thousands of vacancies left open as many EU workers have left the UK and returned to what ever county they started from,this is because they have been given no assurances of their future working status in the UK.

They have contributed to the UK market by paying their taxes and making a life for themselves,yet we have a government that is almost treating them with contempt as though their efforts are being ignored.

So for everyone that enjoys a meal out,a drink at a bar etc be mindful that this may not be the case soon as we will have no-one wanting to work doing this.

Yet again we seem to just lope from one incident to the next,come on help protect the workers and also importantly this great business of hospitality !!
