Hospitality in the UK

So as I speak to the clients I work with across the UK it is becoming clear that the delay in being able to deliver certain requirements to the EU workforce in the UK is already having a detrimental effect on what was already short of labour in all ares of the industry.

As a career it has been slated as a career of choice by both the millenials as well as their parents.

The hospitality industry delivers a huge amount to the UK economy both in terms of GDP and also the we have become a service led economy even though any number of poloticos seem to believe that manufacturing will make a huge comeback.

Anyway the industry leaders need to get together with the goverment and see how we can best promote this and also look for ways of easing visas and work permits for people outside of the EU marketplace.

Having recently been on a cruise in the med what was noticeable was that large parts of the food and beverage teams were from India and also the Phillipines who both have a more defined  viewpoint of working in this business,so maybe something to look at for the future.

I know it can be ardous hours and sometimes feel tedious but the movers and shakers need to look at recruitment, training and development as well as staff retention urgently.

This now seems to be the time to bring the business into to the 21st century.
