Sous Chef
Location - Wrexham, North Wales
Salary - £35,000 per annum
About the Role
We’re searching for an ambitious Sous Chef to join a busy, high-end gastro pub within a hotel setting on the outskirts of Wrexham. You’ll support the Head Chef in delivering exceptional, freshly prepared dishes that celebrate local produce and creative flair, from modern pub classics to seasonal specials and event catering.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head Chef in planning, preparing and serving dishes that meet high standards of taste, appearance and consistency.
- Oversee daily kitchen operations, ensuring food preparation, cooking and plating adhere to the menu and brand standards.
- Supervise, coach and mentor kitchen staff; maintain high levels of teamwork and morale.
- Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence, ensuring smooth service across all outlets (restaurant, events, functions).
- Take responsibility for ordering, stock control, waste reduction and cost-management in conjunction with the Head Chef.
- Ensure full compliance with health & safety, food hygiene, HACCP and all legislative requirements.
- Contribute to menu development, sourcing of high-quality local ingredients and seasonal dish innovation.
- Maintain a clean, organised, efficient kitchen environment and uphold the highest standards of kitchen hygiene.
- Work closely with other departments (front of house, events team, purchasing) to deliver seamless guest experiences.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience working as a Sous Chef (or senior Chef de Partie) in a hotel or high-volume hospitality environment.
- Strong leadership skills – able to manage, motivate and develop a team.
- Excellent culinary skills with an eye for presentation, flavour and consistency.
- Commercial awareness, cost control, portion control, stock management.
- Good knowledge of current food trends and commitment to using fresh, local ingredients.
- Exceptional standards of cleanliness, hygiene and safety in the kitchen.
- Flexibility to work across shifts (early mornings, evenings, weekends) according to business needs.
- A positive, hands-on “lead from the front” style, willing to get involved in the cooking line as required.
- Relevant culinary qualification preferred.
